The assault charges against a former Penn State football player got much worse this week as the Centre County District Attorneys Office added a charge of felony Aggravated Assault to the previously filed misdemeanor assault-related charges. The player now faces a felony charge and a much more severe sentence if he is convicted. The prosecutors threatened to add the felony charge if the defendant proceeded to have a preliminary hearing, and they followed up with the threat when the judge called the case for a hearing. Was that a good decision? Time will tell.
