The author says: "I hope I have provided some food for thought with this précis of positions on the ‘Philosophical Identity Crisis’". No "Dr Chris Durante" you have not. There is no identity problem for those who espouse the materialist metaphysic. Identity is an illusion. There is a sense of self -- but this corresponds to no real self. Unbelievably "Dr Chris Durante" completely omits to mention the mainstream conception of the self i.e that we are substantial selves. This simply reflects the fact that modern philosophers take it as a given that some type of materialist metaphysic characterises reality. Since any materialist position is unable to accommodate the existence of consciousness then there will be little of value in their pontifications on personal identity. They need to sort out their metaphysics first.
