The awesome lady who posted this was a mentor of mine. The first time I ever sat in a dispatch center to observe many, many years ago...I sat with her. I was amazed. What she said is allllll so true...and sad. Damned if you do, damned if you dont...and by the way general public....YOU ARE WELCOME! I have had it..... Time for a walk in law enforcement.. Police see you on your worst day.. You plead for them to hurry up and get to your emergency.. and even as they do, I answer the next callers complaint that he is being reckless for going too fast. Darned if they hurry, darned if they dont.... Every.single.day. There is a threat to them. Not you, as you work in your office, or you sitting at your childs school play, as you go to the gym, or you, as you open gifts on Christmas morning. Were you aware that Christmas is one of the most dangerous holidays for police? Oh yeah, know why? custody issues.. Because citizens are unable GET ALONG, and then expect the police to clean up their messes. Tempers flare because daddy is 5 minutes late dropping off Little Sally so lets call the police and report them! (And if you think that doesnt happen, I invite you to come sit at a 911 Center on a holiday, because the dispatchers work on holidays too) Yes, I said 911, because everyones call is an emergency... Dont you know the police love coming into your home (most of the time alone, because of budget cuts) to solve problems that should have been resolved long ago? Frankly, you picked the person..... And there is nothing better than a parent calling for police to come get my kid out of bed; he refuses to go to school. Im sorry, Whaaa? Are the police suddenly raising ur children now too? Someone recently posted that people get stopped for walking down the street and they are sick of it!!! Well, who do you think called the police?! You should hear the reasons people have for calling - heck, even if you dont give a reason, they still have to investigate it. Because heaven forbid they do not go!! Maybe instead of me getting my blood pressure through the roof, I will let Paul Harvey finish, as he is much more eloquent than I.. For anyone who is an expert on law enforcement, please go to your local department and ask to go on a ride along. Oh, and wear your vest. Good day..
