The black cat appears and perches on a stone. It tilts its black head and stares at me with yellow eyes. Had a good night last night- this is the part of the book I read/thank you for your best wishes sneak peak a The Descendant /Ellie Hart Once I pull myself together, I search for the sandstone. The black cat appears and perches on a stone. It tilts its black head and stares at me with yellow eyes. “You again. You seem to be a black penny that keeps showing up.” It scratches the stone with its claw. A closer inspection reveals that the stone made out of sand and resembles a grave marker, with words etched on the front. I wonder… In memory of the man of intuition and science, for if it was not for him, our family would never have existed. His Name is Merlyn Amazed by the inscription, I examine the stone. Merlin’s remote grave is on a cliff? What the ... The cat continues to stare. Maybe she has some answers. “A tribute to a sorcerer, and no one knows about this? Very weird, don’t you think?” Okay talking to a cat, crazy yes, but everything lately as been out of the norm, so why not … And If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve sworn the cat nodded her head. I search the back of the large stone, nothing. I’m about to give up on this crazy quest. I drop my butt, put my backpack down next to the stone, and drink some water. The abrupt hiss from the cat causes me to knock my water bottle, drops splashing all over the back of the gravestone. Pretty sure that seems disrespectful.. I have to do a double-take when I see words magically appear on the smooth surface, and then vanish almost as quickly as they materialized. I sprinkle the water again and words pop up. I feel the stone, it’s like brail. Excited, I reach for a pencil and a piece of paper from my notebook. I kneel before Merlin’s tribute stone and put the paper up against it, rubbing it with the edge of pencil lead. These are different words than in my dream. It says: In order to find the White Knight’s sword; One must be brave enough to take A Shooting star and dive into God’s fury. “Shooting star? Dive into God’s fury, what on Earth is that supposed to mean?” This is when I need Joseph…he loves figuring out riddles… A shooting star blossom blows by and gently falls to the tranquil water. The cat gracefully chases it and lies like a tiger at the edge of the cliff. That’s it! Snapping up the flower from the gravestone, I walk to the edge. “I call upon the Master Descendant, Merlin, to help me find the sword to destroy the morganite stone.” Holding the shooting star blossom tight, a change brews inside me. My eyes burn like they on fire while my hands and arms have a white glow around them. As the ocean calls me, the small delicate flower takes hold, furiously pulling me toward the crashing waves below. I free-fall over the edge and, like breaking glass, I penetrate the water’s surface. Chapter The power of the blossom is so strong, that I am invisible. I don’t feel pain or shortness of breath when I’m under the water. I feel all of nature’s wonders inside me. It’s like I’m pure energy. This is awesome; I’m scuba diving without gear. Through the murky water, a glint, of something catches my attention. I push hard until I reach the seafloor. Near me, entombed in stone made of sand, is the sword. The same energy that surrounds me, feeds me, now extends to the sword, too. With a little effort, I’m able to free it from the rock. Even underwater, the shiny blade glows of gold and silver. My fingers vibrate with electrical energy as I pull the bladeclose and ascend. But when I reach the surface, I can’t break it. The ocean turned to ice on the top. I franticly pound on it with my free hand, smashing against it until my first throbs with pain. Oxygen. I need oxygen. But I can’t get through, trapped below the ice surface with warm salty air only inches above me. The massive energy around me fades. Am I no longer protected? What’s happening? My heart pulsates drumming in my ears. I try to be calm, settle the panic, but it’s no use. Weakness overtakes me and I start to drift back toward the seafloor. Somewhere in the hollows of my mind, I hear the raven sing and my life unfolds before my eyes. They flutter open and closed, saltwater burning them. Something brushes my arm. Hey, Kid. Don’t let the ending get you down. A blurred vision comes into sight. I blink my eyes. Garry? He smirks. We don’t have much time. I’m only going to do this once. But it’s for you. I flutter my eyes, again. What? He holds the sides of my head. This. Immediately, his eyes glow pure white as his mouth opens. The energy flows through and burns into me. All I see is black.
