I keep seeing a lot of people saying the Padres need to add two legitimate bats (including Black), but lets be honest... Where? How? The Padres arent going to outbid other teams for a quality bat in free agency or take on that sort of liability. Word is that the Cuban, Thomas will demand around $100MM. Nelson Cruz will get big money an hes 34. Aramis Ramirez is 36. Nick Markakis and Melky Cabrera seem like great fits, but will the Padres outbid other teams given the offensive drought and do you want the Padres to overpay for those try of players? In terms of trades, thats easier said than done. Id expect Cashner to be dealt for a bat and then you have to look at the system, a system that has for another year under-performed. Are you willing to package up Hedges, Ross, and two other top prospects for a good bat? My point? In theory it sounds great, just add a few bats, but in reality a lot of teams out there are trying to add a few bats too.
