The body called for an independent investigation on the alleged illegal arrest and detention of the camera team of the coalition at the site by men of the JTF over alleged trespassing, adding that the cameramen were ordered to delete photographs and video footage in their camera as a condition of their release. Reacting to the allegation, the JTF, through its spokesman, Lt. Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, denied the alleged claim of harassment and arrest of the NACGOND team. The task force accused the coalition of failing to put forward a prior formal notification to a restricted area protected by the operatives of the JTF as required by the law. The JTF said its men did not harass or arrest NACGOND team. “It is a known fact that movement without formal notification to a restricted area or a protected facility is an intrusion, and unfortunately, JTF was not informed of the visit to the incident scene by the team and had to stop them to ascertain from the headquarters and Shell Petroleum Development Corporation (SPDC) if the visit was authorised.
