The book of Ruth reminded me of why this season is so important. It is a perfect example of loyalty, friendship, and commitment to God. Naomi left Bethlehem for Moab with her husband because of a famine, lost all of her family while there, except two daughters-in-law from her sons. She was returning to Israel widowed and poor, 180 degrees out from how she left. On her way back to her homeland she excused her daughters to return to their homeland Moab. Ruth her daughter-in-law refused to return, but insisted on going on with Naomi. Ruth stated she would go wherever Naomi went, that her God, and her people would now be Ruth’s as well. Now upon reaching Bethlehem, Naomi and Ruth met a relative of Naomi called Boaz. Boaz allowed Ruth to pick the remains of grains from the ground during the harvesting season so that Naomi and Ruth would have food to eat. Wasn’t much, but Ruth did what she had to in order to survive. Boaz instructed some of the harvesters to drop heads of barley for Ruth to pick up. Now remember Ruth was from a land that Judah inhabitants detested. I am certain there was some grumbling because we know how hatred can poison our souls, and cause us to justify acting on behalf of the devil. Boaz and Ruth eventually marry and become part of the linage from which the greatest gift to man would be born. I like this book because the Lord took two individuals who were not suppose to be together, and showed us if love is in the heart and they are willing to let the Holy Spirit in, all things are possible with God. Now this really gets good because this is a confirmation before the birth of Christ ever happened. So Boaz and Ruth actually help to start the linage of David in to which Christ will be born. Ruth excepted Naomi’s God and willingly kept a soft heart so the Holy Spirit could do His work. Ruth’s commitment to Naomi showed that she was wanting the same grace and salvation that Naomi’s God had given her. Ruth understood that Naomi’s was powerful, more powerful than any god she knew of. She didn’t quite understand what it was, but knew that Naomi’s God was a loving and honest God. My friends the love that is found in the word of God is more powerful the any bank account, semi tractor trailer, president, or any weapon ever made. God expects all of us to spread His word to the masses and a to be a blessing to others. God knows not all will do this, or except his will as their way, but know this season is not about us. This season is about the LOVE that God showed for us. Smile at strangers, give words of encouragement and a hug where possible. I am wishing blessings for all this season and pray that God shows great favor with a nation designed to be a blessing for His kingdom
