The boys went to Camp Erin this weekend. It is a grief camp for kids started by Jamie Moyer, the former Seattle Mariner. The boys had a good time and both really want to go back next year. They have a lot of great stories from this weekend and they met a lot of other grieving kids. Its always hard to know what the right thing to do is, but it seems like Camp Erin was a really good experience for them both. There were both happy and sad times and a lot of different and sometimes difficult emotions Im sure. Especially for Zachary. He got choked up when we were leaving, walking up the trail up to the van. He wouldnt talk with me about why he was upset, what he was thinking about, or how he felt. Maybe someday Ill be lucky enough for him to share those things with me. I told him that I understand how hard it is to lose someone you love and that he needs to remember that his mother wants nothing more than for him to be happy. And I explained that even though you know it isnt what they would want, it is impossible not to be sad sometimes. And that is OK. His Mom would understand that, too. By then we were both choked up and I couldnt think of what else to say. It is hard to fathom what these boys have been through these last three years. I cant even imagine. They are such little troopers! The people at the Camp are all super amazing, and they had a lot of nice things to say about Kai and Zachary.
