(Maya Angelou) I consider myself and would like to be remembered as a Sacred Humanist, something I believe Jesus was and taught. Secular Humanism is an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential or intrinsic value, virtue, valor and goodness of human beings, being human. It emphasizes and honors common human needs, and seeks solely rational ways of solving human problems. Sacred Humanism combines and connects mystical essence to the virtue and value of human beings and bridges humanity to divinity, without demeaning or diminishing either. The renown French enlightenment writer, historian and philosopher Voltaire once said: “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” History proves that Institutional fundamentalist religion, under the guise of benevolence and piety has been responsible for teaching absurdities that producing atrocities for millennia. Replacing dogma and even some doctrines with decency is a critical modern assignment and necessity. Collective consciousness has created the world we live in. Changing how we think, what we believe and why we believe it, can and will change our world and its reaction and response to itself. We can and must heal our self and soul as a species. That starts with reconsidering what we believe and why we believe it how and if those beliefs add to or subtract from the quality of our lives. Love and forgiveness is not an emotion, it is a choice. Choose love and you choose life!
