"The case against Rowan Bailey—the traditional midwife who was arrested in March 2013 in Asheville, North Carolina, and charged with felony murder of an unborn child, felony obtaining property by false pretense (in other words, working as a midwife without a license), and felony obstruction of justice (not keeping medical records)—is moving forward. Rowan was indicted on August 5, 2013, on all three counts, and her next court appearance is set for September 3rd, 2013, when her arraignment & the trial dates will be set. This case has the potential to secure or trample on women’s reproductive rights in North Carolina and throughout the United States. If Rowan is found guilty, women everywhere will be told that they are not the ultimate decision-makers in their pregnancies and/or their births. If Rowan is found not guilty, women everywhere will know that they are the ultimate decision-makers in choosing how, when, where, and with whom they give birth. Whether you are a mother or not, midwife or not, woman or not—if you believe that women and families have the basic human civil right of choosing their care providers and the right to refuse medical treatments—this is your chance to get involved! This case will set precedent for EVERY state in the U.S.! We have an opportunity to bring dignity, beauty and choice to the birth world. Certified Nurse Midwives, Certified Professional Midwives, and unlicensed or traditional midwives all need each other. We need everyone who serves women during their childbearing years to come together to fill the gaps in our maternity care system. Please donate NOW to ensure that Rowan has the best legal team for her case. It will make all the difference!!" indiegogo/projects/rowan-bailey-s-legal-fund
