The case for eating whatever you want… I’ve heard this argument before, and with today’s ultra-niche diets (gluten-free raw vegan, anyone?), it makes sense to a certain degree. I’ve met people who indeed eat anything they want and stay thin. (Thin does not necessarily mean healthy, by the way.) But not everyone can eat this way, especially if you have a broken metabolic thermostat. Out-of-whack insulin levels mean a little bit of sugar can set off hunger and cravings. So can numerous other hormonal imbalances, food intolerances, and other issues. Eating anything you want works for some people. If that’s you, more power to you. For others – myself included – it can be an incredibly slippery slope.
