The church is called to be fishers of men. The net used to do this is the message of the cross! If your net is knotted and tangled or has HUGE HOLES in it, it is ineffective in catching fish. If the message of the cross has been stripped down to nothing more than an emblem worn around your neck or tattooed on your skin, it has HUGE HOLES in it and has lost its effectiveness. He was beaten for our iniquities. He was spat upon, slapped, beard pulled out, etc. for our shame. The meat was stripped from his back by a whip for our sicknesses and diseases. His blood flowed from where the thorns of his crown of mockery was pushed into his forehead and brow. His blood flowed from the stripes upon his back. His blood flowed where the nails pierced his hands and feet. His blood flowed from where they pierced his side with a spear. His blood flowed to cover ALL sins and to redeem ALL people. I am guilty of wrong doing. I make mistakes every day. I carry the guilt and shame of failures past and present. His death upon that cross was his way of saying, Kirk you deserve to die for your sins and this cruel world full of haters and self righteous people are lined up to see you hang on a tree of death. You deserve this punishment and this death. BUT GOD.... So loved this world that He sent His only begotten son. And that son, Jesus, who never failed but rather loved all, that son took your place. He died for you. He became your sacrifice. His blood purchased you from slavery. So tonight, Im not perfect. Im not good. Im not what most think I should be. But Im forgiven. And Jesus loves me. Hey friend, He isnt asking anything from you but rather He is trying to give you something. Accept His gift of love. Jesus loves you too!
