The city is deciding whether or not to allow ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft. If they do allow the services the companies will have to pay fees similar to what the taxis pay. There is not an option to be left alone and allow competition to work itself out. The taxi lobby and their state partners must stand in the way of freedom. The local government must get their piece of any business, we cant have free people running around doing business without paying the local mafia and paying for pieces of paper that certify their worthiness. There was supposed to be a vote yesterday but it was delayed again. I have heard the taxi lobby is well supported and organized. If you support ridesharing you might want to go to city council to speak next Tuesday. The vote will be on Wednesday morning.
