The coat of Lead copyright aindre reece-sheerin The memories, I hold, the trials and tribulations Of growing up The mistakes, not chosen out of pressure Perhaps some were chosen but some too imposed on me as I had not the mechanisms in youth to exercise and exorcise demons The weight of waiting; The burden of thoughts Which of and by themselves have absolutely no measure nor currency But a lead coat they are and I have way too long allowed them to drag me down To lay on my chest and reduce my intake of clean, uncluttered air Unfettered, I wish to be, Unbridled in the lust for life, love and forgiveness And like that used for Xrays this lead coat has blocked the way for me to think clearly Therefore, now, I chose to break this mantle of Concrete that shrouds me As I breathe deeper now and I find the path to forgiveness, so too can I hear the cracks begin to form These cracks are not in the Fabric of me, nor are the cracks other than metaphors for letting go. Yes, I will always have memory but I can choose the leave the hurt and the weight of waiting for forgiveness And now employ the crushed stone of the concrete as a foundation A foundation for the pathways ahead of me. I will not allow my past to sleep and repose Now, is the time for choosing different ways forward. This concrete now longer causes me to wait or slow down For I am using it as my Stepping Stones towards my future Inspired by Gene Barry’s Workshop Sunday 23rd March 2014
