The concerned people who have been emailing me about my nephew Peregrine’s well-being can rest assured. This afternoon, the family finally received a call from him. The mystery has been solved and all are safe! It turns out that one of his fellow researchers, Charlie Simpkins-Smythe, had smuggled a tiny penguin indoors, inside his polar backpack. Yes, I know that penguins are not supposed to be found in the Arctic, only the Antarctic, but this is what made the little fellow all the more rare. For days, Charlie kept it a secret, fearing his tiny buddy might be bisected, dissected and studied in the name of science. Meanwhile, the little guy escaped and padded up and down corridors, hiding in plain sight—did I mention he also has the ability to change color and blend in with his surroundings? Peregrine discovered him while reaching for a towel after showering, and immediately noticed he was drying his back with a penguin!
