The contrast between the enchanting beauty of Kashmir and the glazed eyes of its people is so cruel. The tranquility of the region is shattered by the heavy hand of political and military totalitarianism. The region resembles a vast concentration camp, swarming with soldiers. In my travel to Sopore, Barmulla, Kupwara and Srinagar, I only witnessed Police and Military barriers being abound in both rural and urban areas and intimidating day to day life. All through my journey I saw queue of vehicles stopped for Taleashi(Identification Parade). And this makes one, even as someone who passby, instantly feel empathetic and urges to join the stone pelting protests of people. The whole trip was constantly reminding me of my travel to Eelam, North of Srilanka and Manipur, Northeast of India. The valley seethes with a repressed anger constantly generated by brutality inflicted by Indian Troops. The saga of Kashmir is definitely one of oppression, political corruption and undemocratic policies. Kashmiris are forced to die to live! Each one of us should ask at what and whose cost, India as a country is made to prevail?
