The country is disaster prone and Im not only talking about - TopicsExpress

The country is disaster prone and Im not only talking about natural disasters. There are two big disasters that are constantly battering us and we have no answer to the crises that these spawn in many different ways - our political disaster and cultural disaster that are intertwined. The crises these spawn are systemic problems of entitlement (ako lang or ako muna), corruption (both giver and taker); impunity (no enforcement, no punishment); social injustice; poverty; and the diaspora that has decimated family life and individual conduct. Because of this, the nation is bedeviled, exasperated and desperate for solutions that dont come because the people they elect in the first place are mostly unworthy, and by extension, the people they appoint are equally disastrous. There are always bright pinpricks of light in government, business and civil society who demonstrate the right behavior and deliver on expected performance. But these have remained the minority who comprehend what it takes to be excellent. Very few engage in the practice of performance excellence because theyve stopped developing their capacities to do things better for as many people that can benefit from it. Until we shape up, firm up our character, live out our values, draw everyone into the circle and produce results that benefit the many, we will continue to have this nervous breakdown - a nation always considered full of potential but never attaining what it could be because of its juvenile and delinquent ways.
