The cross-examination of a sports and exercise medicine professor - TopicsExpress

The cross-examination of a sports and exercise medicine professor who treated Oscar Pistorius is expected to continue in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria today. State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel last week accused University of Cape Town professor Wayne Derman of bias and adapting his facts to fit what happened in the early hours of Valentine’s Day last year, when Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his Pretoria home. The Paralympian has claimed that he shot Steenkamp by accident through the locked door of his toilet in his home, thinking that she was an intruder about to emerge and attack him. However, the State is arguing that he killed her during an argument. Nel questioned the professor’s objectivity on Thursday when Derman said that in the six years of treating Pistorius, he had become intimately familiar with the athlete, adding that this made it possible for him to testify that the athlete was anxious and hyper vigilant.
