The dark forces within this humanity have manipulated, twisted, and degenerated all good, noble and sacred things. These dark forces lie within all of us: they are the nafs of Sufism (the original, mystic practice of Islam), the sins of Christianity, the psychological aggregates of Buddhism, the demons of countless religions and sacred traditions, and the egos of revolutionary psychology...those elements within us which are the cause of all suffering. When we awaken our consciousness and cultivate eyes to see and ears to hear we penetrate the subtext of history, the subversive currents of the present day politic, and the esoteric meaning of all religions, myths, and sacred traditions. We must be holy warriors WITHIN. This is why Gandhi said we must be the change we want to see in the world. But superficial, literal, childish interpretations of scripture have plagued Judeo-Christianity and Islam, as political and economic interests fought over the holy land, the hearts and minds of followers, etc. Just imagine: young, disillusioned men from around the world are being brainwashed into blowing themselves up in the name of Allah. If they were young Americans blowing themselves up in the name of Jesus, believe me that all of Christianity would be up in arms. The writer if this letter would ABSOLUTELY care. And they would be the first to defend their faith and say thats not what Jesus taught. Well, its not what true Islam teaches, just as Judaism denounces Zionism (but Zionists happily use Judaism to justify their illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, and all manner of persecution of Muslims there). Or could you care less about any of that? Is it easier to just not care? Is it too much effort to be informed, to be conscious, and live from a place of considered conscience? I care very much for all those who no longer care. The wool has been pulled over their eyes, and buckets of ice-water have doused the warmth in their hearts.
