The decision to release the Senate Intelligence Committee’s - TopicsExpress

The decision to release the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on the CIA Detention and Interrogation program at a time when we are involved in two wars not only puts American lives at risk, but also gives our enemies insight into clandestine programs that have yielded critical intelligence information. The practices that were under review have not taken place since 2009, making the dangerous, untimely release of the investigation purely motivated by party politics. The report goes far beyond providing transparency into covert operations. It violates the trust that the U.S. has established with our global partners by disclosing allied countries that contributed to the program, severely undermining years of relationship building. This over $40 million report is nothing more than a partisan attempt to discredit vital intelligence gathering techniques that have saved an untold number of lives. - Senator Jim Inhofe In fairness to the torturers, its only appropriate to allow them to present their view. Its party politics to finally expose this program at the 11th hour. (Next year, the Senate takes control and the report would never see the light of day once that happens.) But you know what, Jim? Sometimes party politics serve a good purpose. In this case, it exposed you guys as little more than proud practitioners of torture. So its no wonder you dont like it. It violates the trust that the US has established with its fellow torturer nations? Gee, isnt that a shame? Maybe that will teach them not to collude with the US in torture programs next time the GOP gets one of its own in the White House. Saved lives? Really, Jim? Did you not read the part of the report in which the CIA admitted that its torture program was ineffective? Perhaps you think that the standard Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth mantra will bear fruit for you guys once again. I sincerely hope not.
