The detractors of Government Regulation like to paint you a picture of a Small Business Owner, maybe even a Mom-and-Pop store-owner, where that owner has to sit up nights filling out massive amounts of paperwork; and they call that Government Regulation! Well, let me tell you, it doesn’t work that way. The Great Recession that still has an influence on the world today began because of a lack of Government Regulation. Former chairman of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, has said that he had left hands off the financial industry because he and others had trusted the industry to police itself. Well, this is what happens when the greed of Corporate America is unregulated. They’ll do anything in the name of a fast buck and high quarterly dividends, and they don’t care who gets hurt. Let’s look at the Petroleum Industry: Shale Oil, Tar-Sands Oil, Fracking for Natural Gas, financed Climate Change deniers, etc. This is why Corporate America needs regulated. Factories that blow up because of a lack of regulation, the Mayflower oil spill, dead streams where no fish can live, inadequately-tested pharmaceuticals released for human use, the oil spill from Shell’s grounded drill rig up off the coast of Alaska – so-called safe drinking water in an area where Fracking is done, but that water is dark brown, smells horrible, and catches fire when a match is held to it. This is what you get from a lack of Government Regulation! Dare we continue this way? No! Government Regulation does not cost America jobs, letting Corporate America send jobs overseas does that. Corporate America is making plenty of money; they don’t need to be allowed to poison us, to blow us up, or to kill us. Profits are not that important. The few Government Regulations we have now are not enough to keep us safe. Don’t trust your employer, society, of local government to keep you safe. Stronger Federal Regulations are needed, and they are needed today! You are not free to exercise your True Will if you are dead!
