The development of a new Casino in Cairns at Yorkeys Knob would be as disgraceful and disrespectful as building a McDonalds restaurant in the Vatican. Cairns is pristine and unique, it is host to a melting pot of cultures and has a diverse eco systems that supports the reef naturally. This "Build it and they will come" mentality will invite of shore stayers to practice what their laws prevent them from doing in their country of origin and will most certainly increase, broken families with gambling issues and divide the beautiful community feeling that this small city is renowned for world wide. Building the Casino invites more ships (like Bob Irwin warns), polluted storm water into mangrove eco systems, more plastic wrappers or wind blown garbage onto the reef. To sustain the 4.(whatever) Billion dollar development rates WILL increase to manage the waste disposal, dredging, road works, etc. not to mention what would happen when a cyclone messes the place up in our backyards. Heaven help us from the dollar signs spinning in the eyes of the greedy. God save the creek!!
