The dialogue for mutual cooperation is a giant step toward achieving some of the goals of EJS’s AfT. Japan is one of the leading powers in Asia, and has been enjoying that status since the early 20th century. The Japanese have already showed commitment to Liberia’s developmental objectives through the road and electricity projects undertaken by Dai Nippon Construction, DNC. The Japanese envoy indicated that their private companies are interested in pursuing business opportunities “except that (our) government will also undertake particular efforts in creating a business - friendly environment for them so that they will be able to smoothly introduce themselves to the market place in Liberia”. And what does this conditional adjunct mean? That, for instance, the laws are transparent, and the courts are fair and just regarding business transactions; contracts are binding and enforceable; civil servants and others don’t delay performing their official duties until bribes are paid; politicians, legislators and ministers don’t bypass recruitment protocols to send job seekers directly to investors, and the other stuff we do to drive genuine investors away. We say congrats, EJS, long live Japanese - Liberian cooperation and solidarity.
