The digital age has brought many gains in the way of learning and acquisition of knowledge. But it is not without undesired consequences that threaten the very fabric of our education system. Colloquial language has ubiquitously permeated the formal communication. For some reason, meaningless contractions, shortenings and initialism have now become generally accepted way of writing among a large section of the educated folk, more so university students. Diction and phonetics are endangered species. Look at what people write in here - are we getting lazy and reckless with the language of instruction or are we becoming more fashionable and cool? Some text messages I get cannot be deciphered, it is like coded language. Can we try to spell out words and use them conventionally - why are we in so much of a hurry at the expense of murdering English language and burying it at sea?
