Dog walkers in Orangevale shot: one dead, the other injured A man walking a dog in the dark early this morning was shot to death in Orangevale. Sacramento County Sheriffs Department homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of the man and the wounding of his companion. Deputies responded about 4 a.m. Tuesday to the 9000 block of Central Avenue when gunshots were reported. Neighbors near the quiet stretch of Central Avenue between Main Avenue and Santa Juanita Avenue were awakened by the sound of two gunshots. When deputies arrived they found two men in their early 30s with gunshot wounds. The men were walking a dog when they encountered two other males, according to sheriffs spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman. There was a verbal exchange, said Bowman. At this time, we dont know what was discussed. But it resulted in one of the suspects taking a gun out and shooting. One of the dog-walkers was shot and killed. He died at the scene. His companion narrowly escaped being killed. He was grazed in the ear by gunfire and was treated at the scene. The dog ran back home. Bowman said the surviving victim was being interviewed.
