The economy added 321,000 jobs last month, considerably more than the 243,000 added in October or the 224,000 average over the past 12 months, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But the unemployment rate remained 5.8 percent, the same as in October. Elise Gould, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a nonprofit partially funded by labor unions, called the job growth “surprising and encouraging,” but noted, “there’s still considerable slack in the labor market.”
