The elections of 2015 are coming closer and the media plays an important role during the pre-election period. In order to accomplish a professional, fair and objective media coverage during the this period, there has to be proper equipment for the dissemination of information. The Dutch ambassador Mr. Oppewal visited the Iwacu press group on Friday the 24th of October to hand over new technological media devices, worth €1.7 million. The ambassador stressed the importance of objective journalism during elections. He emphasized that the Burundian media should maintain its reputation as peaceful and rightful observers, like they did after the previous elections. The media should not be used as a forum to express hate and resentment. The ambassador hopes to see a synergy between different media, considering the pre-election period as an opportunity to contribute to and develop the Burundian nation. Hopefully with the Dutch support, the technical problems will be mitigated. And eventually, we hope that in the future, the phrase we apologize for the technical inconvenience becomes redundant.
