The environment is an appropriate object of care for the human - TopicsExpress

The environment is an appropriate object of care for the human being as such. It is as natural to care for nature as it is to care for each other. Its not in some peoples nature, but dont be fooled into thinking their dispassion makes us foolish by comparison. That it is irrational to care about nature, and to care at all. That practical rationality excludes having emotion. That passion and reason are diametrically opposed, and that by being a rational agent, the human being is somehow thereby not passionate, emotional, vulnerable, and passive - acted upon, and occasionally overwhelmed, in ways that vary from the exciting to the terrifying to the enraging to the painful to the traumatising. That care is feminine, and that feminine is bad in boys and men - and in women, if men feel like applying yet another arbitrary and impossible standard on womens behaviour. That virtue is inherently masculine, and that it belongs to women to be modest above all else, especially in the exercise of her agency. That being a man means neglecting personal responsibilities in the pursuit of selfish ambition. Its as foolish to conclude from the fact that States do not valorise (value, validate) nature and communities of human beings, that political society as such cannot function if it were ecosocially-oriented. Be passionate. Be impassioned by the crises and injustices, and recognise the urgency with which we must act to become fully conscious of our predicament. To become fully conscious of the individual and collective potential of our humanity. To accelerate the completion of the historical tasks before us.
