The fact is that Punjab is deeply fragmented over caste issues and they are hidden behind the garb of religion. Pukhraj Singh has been traveling across Punjab recording the caste atrocities. This led to a Map of Shame (link in comment) and this long essay in which he records his experience and those aspects of history from the times of the Gurus to the present which have a bearing on his studies. Please read to get a more granular understanding of we consider to be the glory of Punjab but is now its infamy. I hope this and more studies fire some debates on how the state has fared over the decades and some action from those who wish well for Punjab.
