The fact that government builds infrastructure sets up false - TopicsExpress

The fact that government builds infrastructure sets up false incentives that promote environmental damage. * Roads funded by the taxpayer, are in effect, subsidies to drivers. * If roads were privatised, drivers would have to pay the full cost of using the roads. * With the money coming out of their own pockets and not the tax-payers, road users would be incentivised to be conservative, drive less, and therefore emit less air pollution and carbon. The secondary benefit of privatisation to environmental causes is that road use would likely be tracked (necessary to secure payment) and the road owner easily be made accountable for any negative externalities (air pollution, carbon, noise, etc) emanating from his road. Therefore, people concerned for the environment (and people concerned about minimising the tax burden) should insist that roads are privatised. Discuss.
