The fact that this 11 year old was able to identify the criminal who killed her mother even with a balaclava over his head and the killers wife came forward about it, is nothing but the work of God BY KAMOGELO SEEKOEI : The New Age The Free State High Court on Wednesday sentenced 28-year old Elias Thabo Mohale to 30 yearx imprisonment after he was convicted of murder and robbery that took place in Botshabelo last year. Lesotho-born Mohale was sentenced to 18 years for murder of Nthabiseng Lydia Tshosane, 47, and 12 years for robbery by Acting Judge Celeste Reinders. Reinders ordered that the sentences run concurrently, said provincial NPA spokesperson Phaladi Shuping. Mohale was identified by the victim’s daughter and pleaded guilty to all counts after prosecutors informed the defence counsel that he is willing to negotiate provided that the accused told the court the truth. Shuping explained that in July last year the deceased, Matshosane was woken up by noise in her sitting room. She went to investigate and that’s when she came across the accused in her house. “Mohale demanded money from Matshosane and she gave him R2000 she had in the house. (But) The accused stabbed the deceased even after she had given him the money,” said Shuping. “During the commission of the crime he was wearing a balaclava that exposed only his eyes. He was however, recognised by the deceased’s 11-year-old daughter with a scar just under his right eye. The girl even managed to identify him at an identity parade,” said Shuping. The case was sealed after the Mohale’s wife told police that on the day of the incident the accused left home early in the morning and came back with R2000.
