The family of the late Rev. Timothy Fakunle, founder of the famous Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, has opposed plan by the Osun State Government to demolish the school and use the land for another purpose. The family stated its stance on the issue in a letter to the governor. The letter, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent in Osogbo on Tuesday, was signed by one of the children of the late proprietor, Pastor Victor Fakunle. The state government had merged pupils of FCHS with other public schools. The Old Students’ Association of the school had said the government had concluded plans to convert it to a shopping complex. The Fakunle family said that the location of the school was an ideal site for the mega schools being built by the state government. It said it was thus surprised that the school was excluded from being turned to a mega school. The family demanded that the governor should return the school to the family for proper management of the legacy of their late father. The Fakunles also said that although they were not deriving any financial gain from the school, its existence alone was a source of joy to the family. The letter read, “The entire Fakunle family has noticed sadly the state government’s exclusion of Fakunle Comprehensive High School from the schools to be used under the current schools reformation in the state on the excuse that prevailing developmental circumstances would not permit the school’s continued existence. “We have observed that with the strategic location of the school, it would have been the most ideal site for a mega school, a good showcase for the high premium your administration places on educating the child in a healthy, conducive learning environment. Why then the choice of Fakunle Comprehensive High School for obliteration? “We do not want anything to tamper with the education legacy passed down by our late father, Rev. Timothy Adetunji Fakunle. Fakunle family is interested in taking over the control of the school as witnessed in other states including Lagos.”
