The famous Record Deal Pipe dream or Not? By Dj Rodski. I wanted to share a little something with you this morning. Every artist Ive ran across is dreaming and hoping for that illustrious Record Deal which is really slavery. For one when you sign a deal which is very rare these days the record companies are giving out Single, 360, and really deals that lock you in to owing them from the jump. Their going to want you to sign over your Publishing meaning after your career is over somewhat you wont be able to collect royalties. But if they believe that you have great music theyll try to give you a substantial amount of $$$ up front. Which normally ranging from $100k-$300k dont take it. Because if you keep your own publishing you will end up making triple to quadruple that amount in the long run. But many artist want that upfront money so that you can portray that you have made it. And and every monies that the record company fronts you (because thats all it is) they will recoup before you see a dime. I know everyone wants to be on 106 & Park or MTV but thats a illusion for many. I tell people or artist all the time stop chasing that Crackpipe that glass *^+%. Build you a fan base. Imagine you have 10k fans (do the math with me) 10k might not seem much to some of you, but if your honest most of you dont even have 5k true fans. But 10k true fans buy your cd/album for $5 a unit. How much money is that? 10k x $5= $50,000.00 guess where thats going? To your paypal account. Now I dont know about you but I do know $50k will do wonders for me compared to signing a record deal getting $100k up front if that and using that $$ for producers and studio time. Then you have to add in Stylist, Transportation,,housing, food, children, bills and etc. you wont get a dime until the record company gets all their $$$ back. Do you understand where Im going? Why do you think these record companies are signing more young acts? Because of talent? Not! Because their easier to control. A older seasoned artist wont go for a lot of that mess their throwing out. They have No say so on the content of their material and if you want a check better do what I say!! You can take it or Leave it but read and read again then weigh what Im saying and check the accuracy of what Im Saying. Dont let anyone discourage you from your dreams but at the same time dont settle for the banana in the tailpipe!!! No Slaves Allowed!!
