Alex was sprawled across the bed with her eyes closed when she felt Cassidy sit down beside her. She opened her eyes to find a brightly wrapped box in front of her. Cass? What is this? One last present, Alex. Really? Weve been opening presents all day. How come you... Cassidy grinned mischievously. This one is special. It had to wait until last. Special? Cass, nothing could be more special that what you gave me last night. Cassidy kissed Alex on the cheek. It had been a wonderful holiday, but it had also been filled with emotion that left them both somewhat exhausted. Cassidy had anticipated that. She had been looking forward to this moment almost as much as she had her Christmas Eve surprise. Just open it. Consider it the sequel to last night. Alexs expression looked almost worrisome. She timidly reached for the box and looked back to Cassidy for some type of reassurance before opening it. Cassidy just lifted her brow a tad higher, and Alex proceeded to undo the wrapping. A Batman bag? Alex pulled it out in confusion. I thought you would want to stay in hero mode, Cassidy chuckled. What? You know...when you need to swoop in and save the world from dirty diapers. They can be a threat to public safety, you know. Trust me, Cassidy said as seriously as she could manage. Alex shook her head, still perplexed. Cassidy took the bag and opened it. Its a diaper bag, Alex. Alex closed her eyes and shook her head before bursting out into a fit of laughter. You bought a Batman diaper bag? Mm-hmm; for you. Do I get a cape too? Alex joked. No, but you might want to keep the mask handy. There could be noxious fumes and there is always the threat of toxic gas, Cassidy offered. Alex tossed the bag aside and pulled Cassidy to her. You are too much, Alex said with a kiss. They shared a silent smile until Alex interrupted their moment with her next question. And what will you carry, Mrs. Toles? Ill do the heavy lifting for the first nine months. You get the next. Deal? she said jokingly. Alex pretended to consider the offer carefully. Umm. Alex shifted and lifted Cassidy to a position over her. She looked up into Cassidys eyes and grinned. I think I can lift my fair share. Did you just call me fat? Cassidy asked playfully. Alex shook her head. I think you... Alex kissed Cassidy softly and brushed her hair aside. “Does this mean we get a Batman nursery too? Dylan will love....” “Don’t push it,” Cassidy winked. “Merry Christmas, Cassidy,” Alex said as Cassidy collapsed into her. “Merry Christmas, Alex.” She heard Alex chuckle softly. “What?” “It’s gonna be crazy next year,” Alex said wistfully. Cassidy let out a sigh of contentment. “Well, good thing I have superhero wife who doubles as a butler,” Cassidy replied. “Means I get extra cookies next year, Alex declared. Cassidy kissed Alex’s chest. “You’d better watch that cookie habit. Batman will need a new tailor.” “Did you just call me fat?” Alex asked. Cassidy just giggled and closed her eyes. Alex waited for several seconds for her reply. “Cass? Did you? Did you call me…am I….” She felt Cassidy’s body as it shook lightly from her laughter. “Cass?” “Go to sleep, Alfred,” Cassidy said as she tightened her hold around Alex’s middle. “Je t’aime Cass,” Alex said softly.
