The first edition of the Ghana Islamic Tournament also known as GIT was organized by a group of young and vibrant Muslims in the United States with the aim of making the Muslim youth appreciate the need to imbibe the tenets of Islam and the Holy Quran into their everyday lives and to further make them participate effectively in such activities with the view of enabling them to enhance their knowledge in Islam. However, this year only fourteen schools participated in the entire event. They include Achievers Book Club, Hamdaniyya, Rashardiyya, Badr Munir, At Taqwa, Al- Fallah, Abubakar Sidiq, Umariya, Answarudeen, Tafsiliyya, Ainul Shams, Gliss, Hijra and Huda Islamic School. The competitions were Quranic recital and memorization, Nasheed, Soccer, Art, Debate, Poetry, Knowledge Testing, Tafsir and Scholastic Bowl. The tournament started with soccer with all the schools participating between the 22nd and 23rd of June 2013 at the Kotobabi and Kawokudi parks respectively. At the end of the soccer competiton however, At Taqwa Islamic School emerged as champions of the soccer competition with Umariya and Answarudeen placing second and third respectively. FRIDAY (ORIENTATION AND COMPETITION) On Friday 28th June 2013, the tournament continued with the debate and scholastic bowl among all the competing schools at Hudai, which is situated at Alajo opposite Polo Park. The winners from the two competitions progressed to the next stage which was held the following morning. SATURDAY (COMPETITION AND WORKSHOP) On Saturday 29th June 2013, the Quranic recitals and Memorization, Nasheed, Poetry knowledge testing, Tafsir and the finals of the Scholastic bowl took place from morning to evening. The semi finals of both the Debate and Scholastic bowl were made public to the entire student body with Hamdaniyya emerging champions of the Debate and Tafsiliyya the champions of the Scholastic Bowl.
