The first of our inspirational stories ... Hi there My name is Terry-Ann Adams. Im a rarity, a coloured albino. Im from Eldos originally but I am now a final year student at the University of Pretoria doing a Humanities degree specializing in History. This is all good and well, kinda sweet even, however this is not what I do. I work with people who have disabilities. I have been chosen to join Casual Day this year as a brand ambassador. I am also an ambassador for Albinism SA. People dont consider Albinism to be a disability hell even I didnt until I realized hey wait... Theres stuff that I cant do all because of genetics and mutated genes and missing chromosomes. This year I have chosen to shed some light on Sunshine Association Center in Eldorado Park and all the amazing work they do with children who have disabilities. They are underrated and overworked and brilliant at what they do and I would love to pool together all the media resources at my disposal to show residents of my shanty town that there is a place where they can send there disabled children. More importantly, no child deserves the childhood I had with all the bullying, the exclusion and the name calling so I want everybody to know that disabled children deserve friends, abled friends, too. Lastly this might not be important but despite my challenges I have obtained 2 bursaries to study, I worked in campus radio as both a DJ and a news reader and I have won an MTN radio award. I know things are bleak but I believe that each of us can make a difference. I believe that innocent children deserve a chance at life and I believe that as coloured people it is time to claim our identity and to be seen and heard for our positive acts. This is my story (still corny). Thanks for letting me share it. Love Terry or TA
