[The first poem I ever wrote, exactly as it appeared in the Midway City School newspaper, October 31, 1966. I had just turned 11 years old.] “Scary Halloween” by Kenny Cook Grade 6 – Mrs. McCullough’s Adv. Lit. Class Goblins, witches, ghosts and lots more, will all be arriving tonight at your door! But don’t be afraid. No, don’t cry, scream or frown. It’s just candy they’re after, so don’t let them down! And I’ll be among them, these creatures of night. I’ll be dressed as a vampire and certain to fright! To your house I’ll come calling, to get my fair share. So please give me candy or I’ll give you a scare! Chocolate and taffy, in chunks big and small, but peanut butter candy is greatest of all! If an ugly old witch tries to steal my bag, I shall call forth a demon to kill the old hag! Goblins, witches, ghosts and lots more, will all be arriving tonight at your door! But don’t let them frighten. They’re not truly mean. They’ve just come to get candy. It’s scary Halloween!
