The first police patrol dogs in the United Kingdom were airedale - TopicsExpress

The first police patrol dogs in the United Kingdom were airedale terriers used by the Glasgow Police. Four airedales were supplied to Glasgow Police (in 1910 Queenspark Division and Maryhill Division) trained by Lt Col Edwin Richardson at Panbride House near Carnoustie, Angus. After the inclusion of an article on BBC Scotland News about airedales trained by Richardson at Panbride being used in World War One The Glasgow Police Museum contacted BBC Scotland and told them about the first patrol dogs in the UK being airedales. BBC have filmed at the museum and interviewed the curator and last week Duncan Bain and Robbie Clarkes Leanne was filmed in the West End of Glasgow. Then today I was on the beach with Murphy near Panbride being interviewed. It will be on BBC Scotland some time between Christmas and New Year. BBC will confirm the date it will be shown on. It was a perishing cold morning on the beach and I was so glad to get back to the car and out of the wind.
