The first purpose-sunk wreck in Denmark was visited by almost 100 divers on October 12. Divers came from near and far to be among the very first to visit the wreck. Dive trips arranged by local dive centers were sold out in a matter of hours and so the next weeks will see the dive site frequented by curious divers – and hopefully curious fish as well. The 180 feet (55 m) long ferry operated between the islands of Southern Denmark for many years, and has now been laid to rest on the bottom, with the purpose of creating a much needed artificial reef for marine life as well as an attraction for scuba and free divers. The ferry lies at a depth of 62 feet (19 m) with the top at 19 feet (5,8 m)in an area with little to no current, making the wreck perfect for beginners. Scientist will track the development of marine life on the wreck, while Danish as well as foreign divers will benefit from this exciting new dive site for years to come.
