The first question you may be asking yourself is, “Why?” Even if a person can cook fish in the dishwasher, why should they? Ignore the part of your brain that resists the silly novelty of a recipe like this one! Do it to entertain our friends and family. Do it because it’s funny and silly and why not try it once? Do it because the poached salmon actually turns out pretty darn delicious too! Ultimately, haven’t we all done crazier things for less? Poached Salmon with Sauteed Cabbage from Martha Stewart Chef Bob Blumer came up with the method a long time ago, having discovered that the average temperature of the normal cycle on a dishwasher is approximately 130 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit – the perfect temperature for poaching salmon! For this, you’ll need a fairly standard dishwasher with a normal cycle and a long, slow drying system. PRINT Dishwasher Poached Salmon Ingredients heavy duty aluminum foil 4 6-oz salmon fillets other herbs, spices as desired to season your salmon (simply adding lemon juice, salt, and pepper is a good place to start) Directions Lightly grease 2 12-inch squares of aluminum foil. Place 2 pieces of salmon onto the foil and fold up the edges of the foil to create a box. Add your desired seasonings to the salmon. Wrap the salmon into a neat aluminum foil packet, as air-tight as possible. If you press down gently on the foil packet, no air should escape. Place your sealed salmon packets into the top rack of the dishwasher and run a normal cycle. Let the salmon go through the entire cycle, including the full drying period. For extra safety, once the fish is done, make sure that the internal temperature of the thickest part of the fish salmon reaches 145°F with a thermometer.
