The first thing to catch my eye as the sun came up in Juneau was the sky tram. I could not get Cathy to go on , will have to go with Travis , I guess. We noticed the banner on a balcony of our ship as we came out a shop. It says, 5 Oclock somewhere. It was four doors to the right of our room on the same deck. I got a lot of enjoyment from this gold panning. They used old mining cars to store their equipment. It was the real deal, they did not salt the pans, even though everyone got gold. The gold was irregular and very granular. One of the gals was lucky enough to find a picker about the size of a BB. She was struck with gold fever! Matt the guide (little guy with red suspenders) turned us loose on the creek bank to prospect and we found even more. The native fellow with the oxygen flask was getting outside as he could before it got cold. He and his friend were great to talk with. The salmon bake that followed was a real hit with everyone but me, I had baked chicken and enjoyed along with baked bean flavored with smoke caribou sausage dessert was blue berry cake. They ruined my Caesar Salad by puting salmon in it, nasty! All the Alaskans who mentioned their salmon and almost all did bring it up, prefer Sock-eye. I mutually avoid it all. At the end of canyon where they have the cookout was a pretty double waterfall and you could prospect and pan after eating. The one pic with a blue jacket by the creek is Linda, who found the picker. I didnt have the heart to tell her she was digging on the wrong side of the water course. Bob wishes he was here, too.
