The fishing has been a bit patchy over the last couple of months, - TopicsExpress

The fishing has been a bit patchy over the last couple of months, but its pretty understandable considering the ever changing conditions of our little estuary. The entrance has remained open since the last post but we have seen it nearly close a couple of times only to stay open because of timely rain in the catchment. I had a look at it a couple of days ago and it was running at 45 degrees to the beach back towards Pearl Point and looked like it wasnt far off closing. I would think it will be closed by the new year but with it raining as I type this who knows. It really would be the perfect scenario if it did close as we would get plenty of water over all the flats and both boat ramps would be usable. When the water did hold up the bream really wanted to get up on the flats and there were plenty caught on the surface using bent minnows and shallow running hards. some good quality flathead have been caught as well and there are now quite a few that are over the slot limit of 55cm and have to be returned. There have still been a few bream caught in the river on sand worm and prawn but for the most the action has been in the lake. I did see a school of tailor in the channel and these are great fun for the kids on metal lures. There have been up to three seals in the system and if they are nearby, the fish shut down so it is better to move on and try to findanother patch. There a few small bait prawn in the system but it is probably a bit early to determine what sort of season we will have. A few salmon have finally turned up on the beach after what has been a bit of a lean run for a couple of months. Walking the beach casting metals has probably been the best option and the most fun. There have been a few gummies caught and the coming months are always ideal for spending nights on the beach. New sqiddgy wriggle and paddle prawns are now in stock and should be dynamite on both the bream and the flathead. Have a safe xmas, look forward to seeing everyone who makes there way to Bemm over the holiday period. Cheers Mark
