The following is a change of pace from the standard fare that I post on here. My son and I eat as healthy as we possibly can, and when I select my food purchases I try to buy food products grown and produced in London & area, in the province of Ontario, and in Canada. Additionally, I have been searching on-line for information and details about the ingredients in those products. I admit my son and I have a fondness for bacon, like many people do. I try my best to find the best product on the local marketplace, and one day I came across a package of bacon from which the pigs were raised in Wainwright, Alberta. Please excuse me if this is coming across sounding like a cheap advertisement. The package of bacon is marketed under the PC (Presidents Choice) brand called, Naturally Smoked Bacon. The package indicates a black and white picture of a gentlman by the name of Bryan Perkins from Wainwright, Alberta. I wanted to Google his name and confirm this gentleman actually exists and he is a farmer. My search grew frustrating and all seemed in vain until I noticed the following. Mr. Perkins is a farmer, and his family has been farming since they built the first homestead in 1908. He does in fact live in Wainwright, and his speciality is raising pigs, although the farming operation does harvest crops too. Those agricultural enthusiasts in the group reading this would probably say, Well, of course, he is raising other crops because he has to feed the pigs... Please forgive me. I am a city slicker. :) The presentation is long at times, but, he is a wonderful gentleman and offers a very interesting, informational, and fascinating perspective about his career. I am growing an interest in agricultural (pun intended) because I believe the agricultural sector should be revived in my area, and with the right management could prove to be one of the economical spring boards we need to provide stability and growth for our local economy. Thanks for reading my onerous commentary above. Please enjoy the following presentation. lieutenantgovernor.ab.ca/AOE_Legacy/Member/50/ShowVideo?modelId=50&videoId=1053
