The following is information for those interested in FIRST Robotics Competition living near the Springfield, M.O. area. Contact team leader Peggy Painter 417-209-6180 or 1ptpainter@gmail for more details. Team 5476 (grades 7-12) meets in Galena in the Annex building on the square and they have received a NASA Grant! I’ll be attending their December meetings. Hi Silvia, Tomorrow from 1:30 to 5 is the next meeting of Y Bridge 4H Robotics FIRST FRC Team 5476. You are welcome to bring your children to any of our meetings to visit or to participate. If they wish to join, you will need to enroll them online in our club and pay the state dues. ($8 now but going up to $20 next year) We are also require the team members and their families to help with fundraising to cover the expenses of the FIRST FRC program. We did receive a grant from NASA recently to pay the entry fee however there may be additional expenses later. More about FIRST (For Information and Recognition in Science and Technology) can be found atusfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc. The FRC competition begins on Jan. 3rd when we will go to KC to the Kickoff and for the following 6 weeks will meet 5+ times a week to build a robot to meet the 2015 challenge. Because of the competition schedule for FIRST we will not be accepting new team members from January through April, but your kids can still stop in and visit/observe during our meetings/work sessions. Besides the meeting tomorrow, when we will be disassembling old robots, testing and labeling equipment, etc. there will be 4 other meetings this month. Please share this info with any potential new members as there will not be any opportunity for training new members after the KickOff on January 3rd. ASAP we need to finish enrolling all members in both the FIRST and 4H online enrollment systems. Meeting dates in December FRC Team 5476 are: 12/6 1-5 pm----bring any clean plastic organizers (tubs, toolboxes, fishing tackle boxes, etcs) you can get donated to the team as we will be doing an inventory of tools, parts & materials that we have inherited from Team 3284 and 3784. We also need to finalize t-shirt design, colors and orders. 12/19 5:30pm to ~ 8 the Annex on the square in Galena 12/29 5:30pm to ~ 8 the Annex on the square in Galena 12/30 5:30pm to ~ 8 the Annex on the square in Galena 1/3/15 KickOff in Kansas City....all who can travel there are encouraged to do so. If you can not attend but have attended the December meetings you can watch the game video & read the new set of rules online to get yourself prepared. I am still working on a schedule of the times we will meet January-March. If there are no significant weather problems, we should be able to stick to just meeting 5X a week. We will do our best to split up into task specific subgroups but, since our team is so small each member should be prepared to be involved with every aspect of the team. The official build ends with Bag and Tag on February 17th when we stop working on the robot before midnight, so we will probably only meet 2X week from then until the competition which is March 11th through the 14th. See usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/regional-events for the official FIRST calendar of events.
