The following is posted in response to Harry L. Berrys posts concerning Hardin County Fiscal Courts bid award to Red River Waste Solutions for waste collection in the unincorporated area of Hardin County: What do you make of the fact that the company you just awarded the waste hauling contract to sued you in 2008? Im sure that the residents of Hardin County will love having the exorbitant amount of money youre saving them ($1.26/month) tied up in litigation and settlement payments once Red River finds some discrepancy (not that theyll have to look very hard) with the Hardin County government this time around. I have the strangest feeling that these matters wont be quite as proudly displayed through your various public outlets. Also, wouldnt you agree that comparing Red Rivers new bid to the current rates of WTS is sort of a wasted exercise since WTS also submitted a new bid? Im sure theres no way that the purpose of including that assessment was to make a number jump off the page at people who are going to skim read this before patting you on the back, but Im afraid it may have come off that way. The fact that you even try to imply that a nationwide corporation headquartered in Texas is somehow comparable to a locally incepted, created, owned and operated business from Hardin County is rather insulting. By that logic, every business is a local business. Once the inevitable hiccups occur after the takeover and people can’t get the answers they need from the ‘local’ Red River office, understanding of what ‘local’ means may finally be gained by the nine of you who voted for this change. This would also be the place to mention WTS’s sparkling service record, but even youve reluctantly already conceded its existence. In terms of why the price of Waste Transport’s services may be lowered, I cant imagine how something like that could come to pass, and I believe Waste Transport should be held accountable. I mean, with the way that market prices for diesel fuel and disposal costs at the Hardin County landfill stay so consistent, I cant imagine why contracts havent been bid to the same dollar amount since the very first Hardin County solid waste collection bid, because there is simply no way that through an assessment taking place three years after its predecessor could possibly yield new results. Alas, Im confident that our local officials are all men and women who have extensive and recent business experience and acumen, not career government workers and politicians who refuse to acknowledge the fact that bureaucracy and logic mix about as well as saving money and litigation.
