I have some bits and pieces of news and stuff that might be of interest. • Clean Up day in St John’s – There will be a ‘Clean Up’ session at St John’s Community Centre on Saturday 13th July 2013. Just come along anytime between 10.00am and 3.00pm (we do aim to finish by 4.00pm). We intend to tidy up the building and the grounds. Everyone is welcome to come along for part or all of the day. Just wear appropriate clothing and we shall ensure that you are fed and watered. If so could you make a note of where it is or where the ‘hotspots’ are. • A day of FREE physical activities at Langley Park Lodge sponsored by Cancer Equality on Wednesday 10th July 2013. For more information call 0121 533 9734. o At 10.30am there will be and Extend gentle exercise session or ‘Buggy Fit’ round the park. o At 12.00pm you can have a stroll in Langley Park followed by refreshments o At 1.00pm you can take part in a tandem bike ride! o MyTime Health will be there to check you Height, Weight, BMI, Cholesterol, Blood Pressure and Pulse to assess your risk to heart disease and cancer • Rood End Primary School is having its annual community fun day on 19th July from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Everybody is welcome to attend. There will be fun and games, stalls and information on your health, public services and community groups. The event is weather dependent, and takes place in the playground. • VC relay system – You may have received the following email from Bob Manson at Sandwell police inviting you to become part of the ‘VC relay system’. This is where the police will send you a message to let you know what is happening and crime trends. If you would like to receive this information, get in touch with Bob Manson directly “Dear Resident, Firstly congratulations on being a community Ambassador for Sandwell, secondly you might or might not beware of a system which the Police in Sandwell use which is called the VC relay system. This system allows the Police in Sandwell to issue messages out to key members of the public. These messages are sent out in the form of emails, voice messages or a short text. The messages generally given out by the Police consist of - Events - Consultation opportunities - Crime prevention - Crime trends If you would like the opportunity to be put onto the VC relay system and receive messages from Sandwell Police, all that would be required by you is to fill in a simple data protection form (this is a legal requirement). This form consists of your name, address, telephone number, email address and how you would like to receive your messages. If you are interested please email me your full address with post code and I will send a data protection form in the post. Details are available via: johnspellar.labour.co.uk/ Issues raised at the Community Champions meeting held on 27th June includes: • Langley Green Level Crossing – Jayne B and Chris to take this up directly with our MP, John Spellar at his surgery next Friday. • Barker Street Car Park – The car park in Barker Street is gathering rubbish and litter. It is now on the SERCOs regular clean up list. It is a problem with littering. It was suggested that a litter bin could be provided. • Crosswells Road is now open again to vehicular traffic. • Rood End War Memorial Sponsored Walk – This was to have taken place in July, but we have had to postpone it to the Autumn. Dates will follow. • Dog Kennel Lane Post Office has reopened after its refurbishment • Our next meeting will be on Thursday 25th July at 6.15pm at St John’s Many Thanks Chris Florance
