The following press release is for all related police activity during the week of November 22, 2014 to November 28, 2014. Police News Bulletin – Chief Michael Mazzeo November 23, 2014 Police investigated a hit and run motor vehicle crash at about 2:33 p.m. in the parking lot of 1153 Valley Road. A 2001 silver Volvo VXC was parked facing east and unoccupied. Another vehicle attempted to park on the passenger side of the Volvo, struck the rear passenger side panel, and left the scene. As a result of the crash no injuries were reported and no summonses were issued. November 24, 2014 Police developed information on a blue Saturn parked in the parking lot of 642 Valley Road. The registration (license plates) on that Saturn had been reported stolen out of Manville. Upon further police investigation, police determined that probable cause existed to charge the current owner of the Saturn. Leonard Perkins, 49 years of age from Stirling, was charged with receiving stolen property. Police investigated a report of a theft. The victim, a resident of Hickory Tavern Road, reported that his 4’ tall decorated Christmas tree, that was placed inside a dead hollow tree, was stolen. Police are continuing their investigation. November 25, 2014 Police responded to Home Goods, 977 Valley Road, on a report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, police determined probable cause existed to arrest Paula Green, 24 years of age from Newark. Green removed a $249.99 Kitchen Aid mixer off of the shelf and returned it without ever paying for it. Green was arrested, processed, and released with the charge of shoplifting pending a Court Date. Police investigated a hit and run motor vehicle crash at about 3:39 p.m. in the parking lot of 1390 Valley Road. A 2013 black Audi A6 was parked facing south. Another vehicle was parked next to the Audi and struck the passenger side quarter panel in the process of backing out of the parking space. As a result of the crash no injuries were reported and no summonses were issued Police and firefighters responded to 6 fire related emergency call during the week. Police and the first aid squad responded to 8 medical calls during the week. The Long Hill Township Police Department continues the investigation of the disappearance of Millington resident, David Bird, who was last seen on January 11, 2014. A $10,000 reward has been offered by his employer, Dow Jones & Co. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the LHTPD at 908-647-1800.
