The fourth Holy Night we find ourselves with the region of the Archer in mankind’s evolutionary beginnings. This region is connected with the Hierarchy of the Archai and Chiron, the Centaur whose half man/half animal body is showing a connection to the Earth and yet he is stretching up to the heavens with his bow, representative of the Ego. Lightning is representative of how the Archai can appear as an outward manifestation in the earthly world as form. We have moved thus far from the Fishes -physical body, Waterman -etheric body and angels-Goat, astral body-Archangels, and now, with the Archer region we find a combination of physical and spiritual with the Ego making an entrance as an imagination and thereby now ‘standing’ on the earth. This region of the Archer also represents a movement from the Spirits of Form to the Spirits of Personality wherein thinking makes its entrance into the now developing human evolution out of what was Old Saturn but now transformed even further: now the form has taken on the element of thinking power in what will become man on earth and at the end of our earthly evolution, the seventh post Atlantean epoch, the awakening of the Will forces in man. Rudolf Steiner shares: “What, really, is the force that worked in the Spirits of Personality on Old Saturn? It is none other than that which we know in man as the power of thinking. For the work of the Spirits of Personality on Old Saturn was, indeed, to exercise the power of their thoughts.” Sergei shares a beautiful thought regarding this evolutionary process into the future: “The time that begins with the end of the seventh post Atlantean epoch is somewhat akin to a prophetic premonition of this highest condition of development. For if from the end of our (present) fifth epoch the first impulses of Spirit Self descend into humanity from the spheres of the Angels, and from the end of the sixth epoch the impulses of Life Spirit descend from the sphere of the Archangels, so will the possibility of apprehending something of the impulses of Spirit Man be revealed to humanity simultaneously with the beginning of the ‘War of All against All’ as its counter image. This will occur when the point of spring equinox moves into the region of the Archer, while on the Earth the two principle races of humanity, the good and the evil, will become fully apparent. Then the image of the Centaur(Archer) will, so to speak, divined spiritually into two parts, so that the good race will take into itself the forces of its upper, human part, while the evil race will take up its lower, animal, part. A picture was brought forth by Christine of Artemis. The thought of the Archer/Centaur as working with this animal/human body whereas Artemis is actually shown with this same bow and arrow but used as protecting those around her. On this day at the Christmas Foundation Meeting of 1923/24 where the Foundation Stone Meditation was brought forth by Rudolf Steiner, we find this portion here below being worked upon. Emmichoven shares that once again the teacher began with the three Ego experiences: ‘Thine own I comes to being within the I of God’ Thine own I unite unto the I of the world’ ‘On thine own I bestow for thy free willing’ Then he brought in this portion to meet the activity of the Ego which is to ‘bring about the transformation of the astral body’ thereby creating the three soul forces: ‘Then in the All-World-Being of Man thou wilt truly live’ Then mid weaving of the Soul of Man thou wilt truly feel’ Then from the ground of the Spirit in Man thou wilt truly think’ In this we can see the first three regions we have moved through after the Fishes and what was developing in man as part of his evolutionary passage in the Earth evolution itself out of the essence of each planetary nature offered by the hierarchies themselves: Angel, Archangel Archai. Emmichoven shares: Through these rhythms it is possible to penetrate deeply into the fundamental structure of the soul. Truly live, truly feel, truly think; this means to bring forth the pure soul forces through the activity of the Ego. But such activity, the astral body of man is purified; it becomes, as Rudolf Steiner says, a Virgin Sophia. Through its purification, it becomes Manas, or Spirit Self. Only in such a transformed astral body can one truly live, truly feel, and truly think – for only then does one enter the realm of those forces in which man and cosmos interpenetrate in harmony.” He further shares: ‘At the end of this address given in this connection, Rudolf Steiner said that in such a meditation there should be experienced ‘utterances of the great secrets of the World, inasmuch as these secrets of the World are resurrected – to become human Self-knowledge – in the soul of Man.’ ‘Thine own I comes to being Within the I of God. Then in the All – World – Being of Man Thou wilt truly live.’ ‘Do thine own I unite Unto the I of the World Then ‘mid the weaving of the Soul of Man Thou wilt truly feel.’ ‘On thine own I bestow For thy free Willing. Then from the ground of the Spirit in Man Thou wilt truly think.’
