The giant red star in the cluster of Orion, named Betelgeuse, is the most likely star in our galaxy, The Milky Way to go Super Nova in the future. When it does it will glow brighter than our moon for a year or more. As a giant prolific hydrogen burning star Betelgeuse will have a very short life span of only 10 million years or so. Our own, far smaller Suns life span will be about 9 billion years. Alpha Centaura our nearest star burns very slowly and will live for over a trillion years, unless hit by another star from the Andromeda galaxy in a couple of billion years time, when the Milky Way and Andromeda meet and entwine to form a super galaxy. Now back to Star Trek. He he.
