The goal of scientific research is not to shut down inquiry. The goal of scientific research is to open up inquiry. The CDC consistently shuts down the opportunity of scientists to further knowledge and understanding. If the study results had been published honestly in 2004, in the twelve years since, follow-up studies could have been performed to assess what factors may be increasing the risk for males in general and for AA males in particular. Since the study involved children in metro Atlanta, other studies could have (and should have) been conducted in other areas of the country to see if the results were similar or if the race factor changes depending on other environmental factors such as exposure to heavy metals from coal and pesticides from farming, for children living in the Midwest and Appalachia. Because the CDC shut down the process, they not only affected African-American families access to important information about risk, they denied ALL families the access to important information that could have been revealed if the true path of scientific inquiry had been followed.
